Getting Ready for Disney…

We’re just a smidge excited about our Disney vacation around here. I’m sure that comes as quite the shock to those who know us well.

We’ve had a countdown going for a couple of weeks now.

For some reason this year I got it into my head that the boys needed to make their own autograph books. I thought that would be a fun project and they are way into the characters right now and I know they will want autographs.

So… I headed to Hobby Lobby for a few supplies.

We finally got around to making them the other night.

Luke is covered in chocolate pudding in these pictures. And this is after he was scrubbed, but before bath.

And yes, he is a messy eater.

And no, I don’t recommend doing this project before bed. The kids did great and had a lot of fun, but then they were so hyped up about the fact that they were going to Disney World, I didn’t think they would settle down for bed.

I let the boys make their own books. Which almost killed me, but I kept my mouth shut and let them go to town.

I really like that they are unique and no one else at the parks will have autograph books like theirs.

And they couldn’t be more proud.

Or silly.

Journaling…

I think journaling might run in our family.

I kept a journal most of my growing up years and kept up with all kinds of crazy things there. Now as an adult I have this public form of a journal Simply Cindy. I try to keep it updated.  I want to be able to look back years from now and be able to remember little details of my life.

Dan kept a journal some growing up as well. And now he has his platform over at Church and Tea where he is able to write down his thoughts and experiences.

Well, last Sunday as I was sitting in the worship service, I look over and see Daniel concentrating very hard. He had his baggie full of paper and crayons and was writing away. When he was done, he let me read what he wrote.

Here’s the translation if needed:

At Disney World we are going to the Barnstormer. And we might go to the Lego Store and buy a pack. And we are going to eat dinner with Pooh (the Crystal Palace). By Daniel

I love that he chose on his own to journal about his excitement over our Disney trip (even though maybe he should have been listening to his Daddy ;) ).

I think journaling might run in our family…. and a love for Disney World. J

Spring Break at the Lake…

We’ve had a wonderful Spring Break! We spent a lot of time outdoors and a lot of time relaxing.

We ate entirely too much and I spent many hours sitting on the sunny deck reading (apparently re-reading) a book.

I took out entirely too many of these things:

And read Dear John. I was convinced I missed this Nicholas Sparks book (love him), but I’m remember the whole thing as I’m reading. Apparently I’ve read the thing, but I don’t remember the ending. Only a few more pages and I’ll be done then I can watch the movie.

The kids played like crazy and we were blessed with beautiful days. They even played well together all week. Look, I have proof.

Awww…. Brotherly love. J

Dan came for the weekend and spent most of his time fishing with my Pawpaw- who caught like 4 little bitty fish.

We couldn’t have asked for a better or more relaxing Spring Break week.

Now I have to get ready for school… and work…

And reality.

How many days until summer break?

Florida beach…

This was the view from my chair last week at this time:

We had such a great and super quick weekend at the beach last weekend!  We left Friday morning and headed to Fort Walton Beach, Florida.  One of my very favorite places!

The minute we arrived the boys were ready to hit the beach.  Little one had never been to the beach, which was killing me since I grew up right by the beach!  He was soooooo excited.  He kept saying “Florida beach” over and over.

My chair view:

The boys did awesome at the beach. I wasn’t sure how they would do, but they had a blast. We cleaned up after being at the beach all afternoon and headed to Angler’s for dinner. I love eating at Angler’s. You can sit on the deck right on the beach and they have a playground right off of the deck on the beach. The food is fairly yummy and the atmosphere is great.

We went back to the hotel after dinner to get the kids to bed and I’m ashamed to say that I fell asleep with them! At like 8:00. So, Friday was a lively night. ;)

We woke up Saturday and after breakfast headed straight back to the beach.

“Cheese!”

We had to check out at 11:00 (I said it was a super quick trip!), so we had to pull the boys off of the beach to get ready to go.

Here are a few pictures from our balcony:

Dan’s good friend is a missionary and was visiting his parents in Florida, so after driving around Fort Walton and looking at our old stomping ground, we went to eat lunch with friends. We spent a few hours eating and then hanging out and then had to head home.

We had a whirlwind of a trip, but it was a lot of fun. We need to head back when we have a little more time. At least we were able to go for the bit of time that we did!

Vacation: Key West & Cozumel…

It seems like an eternity since we went our cruise! Life has been so crazy since we got back- hence the lack of posts or words when I do post! We’ve closed on our house, painted several rooms, moved all of our stuff in and have been unpacking lots of boxes, D3 started t-ball, Dan got commissioned as a Probationary Elder… and that is only the major stuff.

After we found out D3 was okay (that story is here), we were able to relax and had an awesome cruise. It might not have been an exciting vacation for some, but for us- right now- it was perfect. Lots of sleeping and doing what we wanted when we wanted.

Our first and favorite stop was Key West. It is so pretty there and has such a cool vibe. We walked down to the southernmost point and browsed shops the whole way down and back.

We had the camera on some sort of funky setting when we took the pic of the southernmost point, but I had to include it. We tried some awesome Key Lime Pie for lunch. We were still full from breakfast- you never go hungry on a cruise! We walked around and enjoyed ourselves, but we were ready to head back here:

We loved our little “date nights” each night. Getting dressed up, eating a fancy dinner and then going to a show. I have no pictures to prove this, though. Can you believe that?!?! Not the first picture of us together.

Day 3 we went to Cozumel, Mexico. It was c-r-aaaa-zy. We were the first ship back to Cozumel since the swine flu pandemic. They went all out. There were dancers and guy juggling machetes, a mariachi band and the president of Mexico came out. There was a ton of media out as well. Here are some pics from our room.

We took a taxi down to the shops to look around and I honestly didn’t enjoy that very much. There were people standing in every store yelling at us to come in and offering us free things. I just really don’t like that sort of thing. It didn’t bother Dan, but I got my fill pretty quickly. I did hunt down the Del Sol store to get the kids t-shirts. The shirts are black and white and change to color when out in the sun. D3 loved his.

The next couple of days were spent in Belize and then cruising. I’ll recap those later… try not to hold your breath for those. ;) I’m going to enjoy reading these recaps in the future, it was such a fun time and totally out of our typical day.

Off to unpack more boxes…
