Weekend Update…

We started off our weekend by taking the boys to see Rio. Luke saw a commercial for it and then woke up Friday morning and asked if we were going to see “The Angry Birds Movie.” We have the Angry Birds Rio game and Luke has a mild Angry Birds obsession, so he was all about this movie. He was so excited to be there that I thought he would never be quiet! I’m sure the people around us thought the same thing! He finally calmed down and quieted down and enjoyed the movie.

We spent Saturday morning cleaning the house. The boys worked so hard. I walked by Daniel’s room to see this:

He moved his bunk beds to the other side of his room so he could sweep. I don’t know how he moved the thing!

Daniel had a birthday party in the afternoon and had an absolute ball! There were 14 boys running around and jumping in a bounce house. It was a testosterone filled party and Daniel didn’t want to leave!

While we were gone, Luke tripped and hit his head on the computer desk. I don’t know how he did split his head any worse than he did. It looked so rough!

The boys and I went to Hobby Lobby to get palm branches for Palm Sunday and Luke was nice enough to model for me. Look at his poor little head!

Luke was full of laughs this weekend~ as usual.   I caught him singing Baby (yes, the Justin Bieber song) to the top of his lungs outside.  It was too funny.  He also sang Gloria Patri for me.  {Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.  Amen.  Amen.}

He really is getting into his church songs these days.

  Evidently I like to hold the camcorder sideways. I can’t figure out how to turn the video, so…. go ahead and tilt your head to the side. :-)

Luke had a rather rough time at church Sunday and lost computer and iPad time. When we got home, he informed me that he went to his room and “prayed for God to help me be sweet this day.”  Melt my heart.  Isn’t that a good prayer for us all?!

Randomness from the week…

We’re still dealing with car drama around here. Totaled cars, rental cars, lost titles L, trying to figure out a car payment etc….. While it’s a major inconvenience I am trying to remind myself of all of my blessings. The poor people of Haiti would love to switch situations with me right now.

The situation in Haiti is so sad, but thank goodness for those that are giving aid to that country. The United Methodist Committee on Relief, or UMCOR, is a disaster relief agency that is immediately dispatched to troubled areas throughout the world whenever tragedy strikes. They are in Haiti now and a wonderful part of the Methodist Church. You may give to UMCOR by clicking their logo below.

On a much lighter note I took the boys to the park yesterday because it was finally warmer than 32! They had a blast. The poor guys have been cooped up inside for far too long. I was so proud of Luke. He actually navigated the park by himself and went down the spiral slide no less than 20 times. Bless his heart he has always been scared of the big play equipment at the playground, but not anymore. Ha!

The rest of my week would probably bring tears of boredom to your eyes, so I’ll end with a yummy recipe that we had this week. I make it every now and then and it’s so easy and yummy.

Easy Chicken & Dumplings
3-4 Chicken breasts
2 cans Cream of Chicken soup
Flour tortillas (around 5 large or 10 small- I just eyeball it)
Salt/Pepper

Boil chicken and shred. Put the chicken back into the water and add cream of chicken soup, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil.
Tear up tortillas into pot and boil for 45 minutes – 1 hour.
Add a stick of butter a few minutes before done.

Thank You Lord…

I was all ready to post a sarcastic post about my week where my car was totaled, my camera broke, my beloved radio broke, and a pipe at our house burst….

That was until we had devotion this morning before school and my coworker read the best prayer. I’m printing it out and putting it on my finger-smudged refrigerator to remind me to look at my life a little more gratefully…. Because my house is an awful lot like the one described here!

Lord, thank you for this sink of dirty dishes;
  we have plenty of food to eat.

Thank you for this pile of dirty, stinky laundry;
      we have plenty of nice clothes to wear.

And I would like to thank you, Lord, for those unmade beds;
      they were so warm and comfortable last night.
      I know that many have no bed.

My thanks to you, Lord, for this bathroom,
      complete with all the splattered mirrors,
      soggy, grimy towels and dirty lavatory;
      they are so convenient.

Thank you for this finger-smudged refrigerator
      that needs cleaning.
     It has served us faithfully for many years.
     It is full of cold drinks and enough leftovers
      for two or three meals.

Thank you, Lord, for this oven that absolutely
       must be cleaned today;
      It has baked so many things over the years.

The whole family is grateful for that tall grass
      that we all enjoy the yard.
     My kids are healthy and able to run and play.

Lord, the presence of all these chores awaiting me says
      You have richly blessed my family.
      I shall do them cheerfully and I shall do them gratefully.

Even though I clutch my blanket and growl
      when the alarm rings,
     Thank you, Lord, that I can hear.
      There are many who are deaf.

Even though I keep my eyes closed against the morning light
      as long as possible,
     Thank you, Lord, that I can see. Many are blind.

Even though I huddle in my bed and put off rising,
     Thank you, Lord, that I have the strength to rise.
     There are many who are bedridden.

Even though the first hour of my day is hectic,
     when socks are lost, toast is burned and tempers are short,
     my children are so loud,
     Thank you, Lord, for my family.
      There are many who are lonely.

Even though our breakfast table never looks like
      the pictures in magazines
     and the menu is at times not balanced,
     There are many who are hungry.

Even though the routine of my job is often monotonous,
     Thank you, Lord, for the opportunity to work.
     There are many who have no job.

Even though I grumble and bemoan my fate from day to day
     and wish my circumstances were not so modest,
     Thank you, Lord, for life.

Randomness: The December 2009 Edition…

Here are a few random things that I haven’t blogged about. A few other things that have happened this December:

  • The Mickey Mouse Christmas Obsession.

    Luke has watched Mickey’s Once and Twice Upon a Christmas at least once daily if not more and we have just about worn out our Mickey Christmas CD. These were definitely a favorite this year!! The $6 I spent on that CD was six of the best dollars I’ve spent in a while. J He has all of the songs memorized.

  • I was able to sneak in and out of Luke’s Christmas Party (my class Christmas party was going on at the same time). His little class is too cute! They made crafts and ate and sang. At his Thanksgiving Program of the 20 two year olds at his school, 19 of them wore turkey feathers. Can we guess which child refused? Well, they thought he would be the same way with his little reindeer antlers for the party, but he wasn’t. I thought he looked like a doll!
  • We had a couple of D3′s friends over the Friday after his birthday for a little party. Dan put together a great game and boys made their dessert cookies and ate dinner. They all seemed to have a great time! L was never far behind the boys with the famous little brother line: “Wait for me!”

    One of D3′s friends gave him a Nerf gun and he was thrilled. He had to strike a pose for me.
  • Our family lit the Advent Candle at church this past Sunday. The boys did well. Luke cooperated and Daniel read his line. I tried to get a pic of the boys in their ‘Sunday Best’ which involved a lot of them hollering “Cheese” and “Merry Christmas” at the camera.

    After lunch they went to play a video game for a few minutes before nap, but I guess little man couldn’t make it.

  • The other day Dan was tickling Luke and he was squealing and giggling then all of a sudden he started saying “Help me baby Jesus! Help me!” It was too funny. I guess he’s been taking in all of the Jesus coming into the world to help us talk. J So cute.

    The kids have had such a joyful Christmas season this year!

    Merry Christmas!

P.S. My Mawmaw is back in the hospital (from the Nursing home) with double pneumonia. We went up to see her for a little bit yesterday. She is mostly sleeping and is super weak and sick. L

She passed away this morning. We are taking comfort in the fact that she is no longer suffering .

Nostalgia and the missing nap…

I’ve been going through pictures from the past year and ordering prints – yes I’m a year behind! I cannot get over how fast kids grow! It is just crazy.

Where did this baby go?

D3 is really growing up too and looses that baby face more and more each day. Being a mom is so bitter sweet.

I just made a photo book at W@lmart dot com. I’ve never made one of those before, but I hope it turns out cute. I made a book of our Disney family vacation from last May. What a great time we had.

Anyway, I’ve been all nostalgic this week while working on those projects.

When I was taking D3′s 100 Day book out of the scanner, I noticed the back of the What I would like 100 of page:

There really were 100 pepper spray bottles. If you have no idea what the heck I’m talking about, you can read about it here.

Dan just received word yesterday that he passed his Board of Ordained Ministry interview process and is now (or will be in June, I suppose) a provisional Elder for the United Methodist Church. I hope I said that all right. Basically, he is right on track to becoming ordained in 2 years. This was big news and I’m so proud of him! He has worked so hard and spent so many hours last semester working on his commissioning paperwork and then had to interview in front of several committees.

B is still not napping well. It is really driving this momma crazy! He napped an hour Monday, but only 20 minutes yesterday. Saturday he took a 2 hour nap in his crib and Sunday no nap. Ugh. Any ideas are welcome!!

Oh, and if you don’t read Kelly’s blog (although I think most of the world doesJ) baby Harper is doing a lot better. She is opening her eyes now and is a complete doll. Click over there and check out the power of prayer!

Happy Wednesday!
