Cabinets and Pianos and Laundry, oh my…

My sad little blog. I hear it calling to me through the week, wanting me to come over and post ~ but I just tell it to take a number! Ha! I do so want to blog and keep up with the ever so interesting details of our little lives, but I’m finding it difficult this school year.

I’ve managed to waste some hours staring at screens keeping up with some of the blogs I like to read, pinning things on Pinterest {love it!} and lugging my iPad around with me and watching Downton Abbey as I do chores.

Yes, it comes on PBS. And yes, it’s a Masterpiece Classic. And yes, my husband made fun of me as I was watching it, but I really like it! I had a hard time getting into the first episode, but once I watched the first episode through I was hooked!! The first season is on Netflix and the second season is on PBS.com.

I started watching it a few Saturdays ago as the boys in I ventured into the kitchen to help Dan get ready to paint. We have an absurd amount of drawers and cabinet handles.

Daniel literally getting into his job

And don’t tell Daniel, since I don’t want to offend him, but Luke wins the workhorse award. That child unscrewed cabinet doors and put the screws back in when we were done. He did about 6 doors in the time Daniel did 2. Well, probably in the time I could have done 2!

The kitchen is slowly, but surely getting there. It’s a lot better than the dark brown cave that it was!

Last weekend, we received a ton of furniture from my parents. They are downsizing and gave us so much stuff {thanks again!!}. So, last weekend we loaded and unloaded a uhaul {okay, I did very little loading and unloading}.

Please ignore the dings and dust, but we now have the piano that I grew up playing. This poor piano has been manhandled to countless houses over lots of years. It’s needing some TLC, but we’re so excited to have it!

Daniel has even taken my first piano book and read through the beginning and taught himself a couple of songs. He’s loving it. Now, I need someone else to encourage correct finger position, because this child gets frustrated with his mother!  :-)

Alright, I have officially been a stay at home mom and a working mom. And I have to say~ they are both so hard!! This working mom thing is a hard gig. I enjoy it, but I feel like I can’t keep up. I’ve taught super part-time since Daniel was two, but this 5 days a week, almost all day {I technically only work 30 hours a week ;-) } stuff has a learning curve. I’ve never exactly been on top of all of my household duties, but I’m finding it super hard now. I don’t know how women do it! I will say that if I get a full time job in a classroom next year {please, oh please} we’re putting housecleaning help in the budget! It is just not what I want to deal with! If I’m not working or planning I want to be spending time with my family, not scrubbing or folding! Ugh! Okay, vent over and I must go do laundry and clean the kitchen and dust my new piano and….

Random Blogging…

Well, blogging in 2012 is non-existant so far! And it’s already the 15th day in – yikes! My first few days of January have been filled with strep throat and trying to get back to work. I had been off for over a month, so getting back into the swing of things has been challenging to say the least! In order to get a blogpost up, I’m going for random. When am I not random? I’m not so sure, but here we go…

* I’m blogging from my ipad for the first time. We will see if I’m capable of such a thing! :)

* We started off our year with Daniel getting strep throat and then I was next in line. It’s the total pits and I wish adults could recover as fast a kids!

*Daniel earned his purple belt in karate in December. He’s super proud and really enjoying karate.

* I might should not own up to the fact that I’m a soap fan, but I am and I’m sad that One Life to Live had their last episode Friday! I’ve watched that show my entire life {ratting you out there too, Momma :) } and it’s been my one that I’ve DVR’d since Daniel was born. It’s always been my kid naptime show. No more…

* Daniel got a few gift cards for his birthday and Christmas and was dying to spend them after Christmas. He had $65 and managed to buy $100 worth of Legos and a new game for his DS. That’s my bargain shopper! He was so excited to get 2 huge Lego sets for half off.

*Luke was also excited to use his gift cards… for what else? Batman, of course. They now make Batman legos. After Christmas. Guess who wants them all?

* We went to Golden Corral last night {we haven’t been in ages} and they now have a chocolate fountain that my kiddos thought was the best thing ever. There was ridiculous amounts of chocolate on our children and their plates!

*I need a lot more practice on this ipad blogging thing. I’m too used to my computer.

* Have I mentioned my love of teacher blogs? Since I got my new job they are saving me with there awesome activities! That and teacherspayteachers.com.

* Luke is really into The Magic Treehouse books right now. I thought he might want to read a chapter book and I was right. He is loving them. I had book 1 at school, so he wrote me a note the other day to put with my school things, so that I would bring the book home for him.

*That’s all for now!

A Peak into my House…

If you were to peak into my house today you would see people wearing pajamas and playing with new toys (even a boy riding a new bike around the house).

If you were to peak into my house today you would see a Christmas tree waiting to be disassembled and a couch full of decorations ready for Christmas boxes.

If you were to peak into my house today you would see lots of people (and animals) resting and all of my pretty Christmas cards still hanging on the Christmas tree.

I made a Christmas card blessing ring this year and LOVE it!

If you were to peak into my house today you would see a big ole mess and a sick boy lying on the couch playing video games.

Actually, maybe it’s best that you don’t peak into my house today…

The four blog posts that never were…

It’s pretty obvious that I’ve had a hard time blogging since I got my new job. There have been dozens upon dozens of times that I’ve sat down to blog and just haven’t been able to focus on it. So, here are four blog posts in rapid form.

#1 Post: Luke and the Cowboy Birthday Party…

Luke had a ball at one of his best buddy’s birthday parties.  He wanted no part of riding the horse, but he rode the little wagon.  And was much too busy for a picture!

#2 Post: Wordless Wednesday: Hatman…

#3 Post: Our Awesome Thanksgiving…

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break at Dan’s brother’s house. I didn’t take very many pictures there, but we all had a wonderful time! There was lots of playing, children, food, shopping and movie watching.

The day before Thanksgiving we headed down to Legoland for the day. It was a surprise for the kiddos and they were so excited!

We had such a great time. The boys sweetly held hands and walked around. I had to take a picture to document such a momentous occasion. J

#4 Post: Wordless Wednesday: Back from the Library…

Luke is thank you for…

The other night at dinner Luke asked us all what we were “thank you” for. I thought that wording was too cute.

He also brought home this cute thankful turkey.  But, I think Daniel might have been a little offended by it.  :)

“Daniel, but only sometimes.”
