Top 10 from 2010…

I think that 2010 has been the fastest year ever. I just don’t know where all the time has gone! I wanted to do a look back on 2010 and some of the big {and not so big} things that have happened in our family. I’ll list these in chronological order.

1. My Wreck/Buying a new car

My 2010 started with a bang! On January 1 a lady hit my car and totaled it. I did end up getting a nice {new to me} car out of the whole situation.

  2. Daniel played Baseball and started Karate

Daniel played baseball this year and was I ever introduced to a new world. Little kid baseball is intense!

He also started karate and is doing great! He earned his yellow/white belt this December.

 3. Boys Will Be Boys!

Daniel fell into the wall and almost broke his nose and Luke busted his forehead open… all in the same week.

 4. Disney Family Vacation!

So much fun!!! We LOVE family vacations and we LOVE Disney. I think we just might be Disney fanatics.

5. Summer Fun

We had so much fun this summer being off schedule and keeping busy with our Summer Vacation Chart. We made lots of trips to the lake this summer too, which was great!

6.  Our Tenth Anniversary

I think this was my favorite part of 2010. We had such a wonderful, fun, relaxing 10th anniversary. It was great to celebrate 10 years of being married to my wonderful hubby!!

The rest of my list if from December. So we either pack a lot in a month OR my memory doesn’t go back to far… hmmmmm…. Not sure which ;)

7. Jeremy the Elf

I never dreamed we would have so much fun with a little elf visitor, but he kids loved it and we had a lot of fun with the mischief!

 8. The Boys’ Birthdays

Daniel and Luke were super pumped about their birthdays this year! I don’t know what the deal was, but turning 8 and 4 was a HUGE deal this year! J

 9. Christmas Visitors

We had Dan’s entire family (minus 1) come for a weekend in December. It was nice having everyone at church and the boys LOVED playing with all of their cousins!

My parents and Pawpaw visited too, but I have no visual proof!

 10. A House Full of Flu!

Everyone in the house had the flu at Christmas and right after. Well, everyone but me {and thankfully my doctor put me on a Tamiflu type medicine}. I don’t recommend it. It was {slash is- we’re still recovering around here} terrible. Get your flu shot! You think I would have learned this lesson by now, but I think it has sunk in with me now!

Those are 10 memories from 2010. We had a lot of other happenings this year and I’m SURE I’ve left off something terribly important. J I’m looking forward to 2011 and praying for a super positive year!!

The Day Luke Turned 4…

We have a FOUR year old at our house! I have never seen anyone as excited to be four as Luke.

He woke up at 6:00 and came running out his room whooping and hollering. He was too funny. The first thing he found was his new bike from Mommy and Daddy. He rode it around and around the house all day!

We tried to space out his present opening, but that wasn’t happening~ so we finally just let him open them all. Everyone had brought his birthday presents at Christmas, so he knew he had a pile to open and couldn’t wait!

Both boys had been feeling under the weather and running high fevers, so we had appointments with the pediatrician that morning. They tested them for strep and flu and Luke cried and cried. It was just an awful way to spend part of a birthday morning! Both boys tested positive for the flu. L Luke also had the start of an ear infection, so he got antibiotics for that.

I just felt awful that I had put off the flu shot with the boys and then they ended up with the flu.

He was so proud of his 4 shirt. J He looks so sick in this picture though. He played and played with his new toys most of the rest of the day. He did take a nap in there too when we took Dan to the doctor. He has the flu too. L

After dinner {chicken nuggets and French fries~ Luke’s favorite} we had cake. He knew exactly what he wanted. Strawberry cake, vanilla icing, sprinkles and the number 4. Not four candles- the number 4.

So that’s what he got.

This was the day that Luke turned 4~ a day filled with a super excited little boy… with the flu.

Our Cool {and not so cool} Christmas…

We’ve had an interesting Christmas at our home this year. Some of it was very cool and some of it was not so cool.

Here’s my run-down of Christmas 2010.

Cool
My parents came to stay with us for Christmas and brought my Pawpaw. My Pawpaw is a bit of a reluctant traveler, so this was cool.

Not so cool
Dan had been fighting a cold for almost a week and was still feeling bad on Christmas Eve.

Cool
We all went to the Candle Light and Communion Christmas Eve service together. I love this service each year.

Not so cool
Dan felt terrible through the whole service {but still did a great job leading a beautiful service!} and his fever began to rise as the night went on.

Cool
The boys got up on Christmas morning and had a ball opening all of their gifts!

Not so cool
Dan was unable to get up Christmas morning because he had an almost 104 fever and we then guessed it was the flu. {it was}

Cool
I got an ipad! I’ve never had any sort of electronic thing for my own, so this is so cool! Now I have something to tinker on while everyone else is on their laptops!

Not so cool
Daniel and Luke both started acting puny. We really hoped it wasn’t the flu. {it was}

Cool/Not so cool
We had a great Christmas lunch that I ate way too much of!!

Cool
It snowed on Christmas day. It was everyone’s first White Christmas! Luke had been talking a lot about snowball fights and snow angels and eating snow lately. He did all three things  in about 2.5 seconds of being outside.

Not so cool
My mom got the stomach flu on Christmas night.

Soooo….. our Christmas was a definite mix of a lot of cool and a lot of not so cool.

I’m still trying to figure out which outweighed which. :-)

Anything Like Me…

I remember saying I don’t care either way
Just as long as he or she is healthy I’m ok

Then the doctor pointed to the corner of the screen

And said “You see that thing right there well you know what that means”
And I started wondering who he was going to be

And I thought heaven help us if he’s anything like me…

He’s gonna get in trouble

oh he’s gonna get in fights

I’m gonna lose my temper and some sleep

It’s safe to say that

I’m gonna get my payback

 if he’s anything like me….

Merry Christmas Eve…

We’re sad to send Jeremy back to the North Pole! He has brought so much fun to our house this year. Here are his last couple of days of mischief:

Day 16:

Jeremy won playing Dr. Mario on the Wii!

Day 17:

Daniel sent a note to Santa with Jeremy and Santa sent a reply

Day 18:

Jeremy toilet papered the bathroom

Day 19:

Jeremy said goodbye with post-its. He also left a little note saying that he had fun and would see them next year.

Jeremy elf and Santa Claus are such a fun part of Christmas when you have little kids, but that’s not what it’s all about. I think my second grade son put it nicely in his Christmas Essay at school. {Translated below, if you need it}

{These are the things that Christmas means to me:
Jesus, giving is more important than receiving and my family.
Jesus’ birthday is on Christmas.  It all started back way back when Mary came into the inn where Elizabeth was.  A baby boy jumped for joy and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
Mary and Elizabeth traveled on a donkey to Nazareth to find Joseph.  Then again Mary traveled on another donkey.  They got to Bethlehem.  Instead of an inn they ended up in a stable.  Baby Jesus was born in a manger.  A star appeared in the sky.  Shepherds shouted praises to the Lord.  Three wise men brought gold and other things to the baby king.
My father told me giving is more important than receiving.  Because if you give the more you believe in God and Jesus.
I have 4 people in my family and 1 dog.  On the 18 of December my whole family is coming over!
Now these are the things Christmas means to me: Jesus, Giving and my family.}

May you experience Jesus, giving, and family this Christmas.

Merry Christmas!!!
