Trick or Treat…

For whatever reason, our town moved our Trick or Treating night to last night. The boys were just a little excited about getting in their costumes and scoring some candy!

We went over to a friend’s house for a Halloween party and then went trick or treating all together. There were about 18 kids!

Here’s a little clip to sum up L’s excitement before we headed out.

I managed to get a few shots of Batman and Robin before we left. They chose their own costumes and I thought they looked mighty cute! J

That crazed smiley look on D3′s face summed up his evening. He was way pumped to be with his friends getting candy!

This is the only action shot I could get and it’s terribly blurry! L went up to the doors and said ‘Trick or Treat’ all by himself. I couldn’t believe he was so independent!

I’m still tired from last night and the kids are still hyped up on sugar. Should be an interesting weekend!

Jack o’ Lantern fun…

This past Saturday was perfect pumpkin carving weather! It was cool out, so the boys and I got our pumpkin and started the jack o’ lantern.

Daniel + a knife= scary image.

He did great though, and cut an opening at top of the pumpkin.

Ignore my rusty old outdoor furniture. It really needs painting or replacing!

Ewww…..

Scooping out pumpkin guts. J

This would be the first time in his 6 year old life that he actually touched the pumpkin pulp.

The boys were over messing with the pumpkin before all of the pulp was out and started drawing with chalk!

So, I carved alone. We chose Mickey Mouse this year.

We might do another that’s a traditional jack o’ lantern… or we might not. ;)

Mr. Turkey…

Luke has been loving preschool and learning so much in his wonderful class this year!  He came home singing the songs that he has been practicing for his upcoming Thanksgiving program.  Mr. Turkey is his personal favorite.

I find his singing beyond cute…. but I guess I am his mother.  :)

Yummy Fall Recipes…

Obviously I read a lot of blogs, because two yummy recipes that I’ve made this past week come from blogs!

I’ve made several different versions of Taco Soup, but this recipe is my favorite. It is a hit with my family.

Taco Soup

Brown 1 lb ground beef or turkey
Sautee one onion in a few tablespoons of oil.
Add meat to onions in a large pot. Then add the following ingredients:
2 8 oz. cans of tomato sauce
2 cans Ro-Tel tomatoes
2 cans black beans, drained
1 can corn, drained
1 can chicken broth
2 packages taco seasoning

I made a couple of changes, but go this recipe from Betsy’s blog. I put mine in the crockpot and let it warm all day. Yum, yum!

The second recipe I tried last night and was also big hit with the family.

Paula Deen’s Hurry Up Chicken Pot Pie

2 cups chopped cooked chicken breast
2 hard-boiled eggs, sliced
1/2 cup thinly sliced carrots
1/2 cup frozen green peas
1 (10 3/4-ounce) can cream of chicken soup
1 cup chicken broth
Salt and pepper, optional
1 1/2 cups instant biscuit mix
1 cup milk
1 stick melted butter
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a greased 2-quart casserole, layer the chicken, eggs, carrots, and peas. Mix the soup, chicken broth, and season with salt and pepper, if desired. Pour over the layers. Stir together the biscuit mix and milk, and pour this over the casserole. Drizzle butter over the topping. Bake until the topping is golden brown, 30 to 40 minutes.

I got this recipe from Kelly’s blog, which is also where I got the salsa recipe that I swear I make at least once a week!

Halloween costumes…

The boys finally chose their Halloween costumes. It was all their doing, because they certainly didn’t love my choice (see previous post).

They were looking through the Party City Halloween flyer and decided on their costumes together.

I thought it was a great choice. J
