Our Three Words…

I try not to discuss politics anymore than I have to, because I don’t like arguments. Even civilized ones- I just don’t like it. I am glad November 4th has arrived and has passed. I was tired of political commericials and phone calls and being bombarded with politics!  However, I would be remiss if I did not mention a historically significant week in our country in the summation of my week.

Our week in three words:

Our country elected an African American as President. No matter your politics, where you stand on issues or even your personal view of Barack Obama- this fact alone is amazing.

Our country now needs to be in prayer for our new president. He has a lot of work ahead of him.

I read a couple of blog posts this week about the election, that I actually really liked.

One is by a lady named Anne Jackson, who basically said regardless of who our president is we, the people, need to work together to better our country. Her post can be found here.

Also, Beth Moore had a very nice post on her blog this past week as well. You can find that here.

This has been an intense week, and I hope we are able to have a bit of a carefree weekend! Hope everyone has a great one!

Creamy Italian Chicken…

I made the yummiest (and easiest) recipe this past week and thought I would share!

Crockpot Creamy Italian Chicken
Ingredients:
-4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves
-1 envelope Italian salad dressing mix
-1/3 cup water
-1 package (8 ozs.) cream cheese, softened
-1 can (10 3/4 ozs.) condensed cream of chicken soup, undiluted
-Hot cooked noodles

Preparation:
Place the chicken breast halves in crockpot. Combine salad dressing mix and water; pour over chicken. Cover and cook on LOW for 3 hours.

About 2 hours before serving, whisk together cream cheese and soup until blended. Pour cream cheese mixture over chicken.

Serve Italian chicken over hot cooked noodles.

Thanksgiving: Kid’s Crafts…

Look who is now residing in my kitchen:

My cute little Thanksgiving Pilgrims are out, so that must mean that Thanksgiving is on its way! My mother-in-law gave us these cute little salt and pepper shakers a few years ago. They are from the Publix Thanksgiving commercials.

I thought I would do a few Thanksgiving related posts through this month. This first one, I will include a few ideas for cute Thanksgiving Crafts:

I love these pilgrims and Indians. I have always wanted to do these in my classroom, but I haven’t yet. They are made from Zoo Pal plates. Turn them over to the back and paint them with tempera paints. Add embellishments- wiggle eyes, wooden noses, bingo dot cheeks… and you have a super cute craft. I found this idea at The Virtual Vine.

My personal favorite the turkey handprint with cute poem:

This isn’t just some turkey
As anyone can see.
It’s made with my hand,
Which is a part of me.
It comes with lots of love,
Especially to say
I hope you have a very
Happy Thanksgiving Day!

I bought the kids plain little tees from Walmart last year and put their handprint turkeys directly on the shirt. They turned out cute.

Every year in my classroom, we make Thanksgiving shirts by using the kids’ handprints to look like an Indian head:

One year the kids in my class made pilgrim hats out of paper cups. We used these as our place cards for Thanksgiving Feast. They looked similar to this:

I didn’t cut the bottom out for a snack cup, but that’s cute too. We covered ours in black paper and then glued the cup on a black paper circle. I left the white rim of the cup showing and it looked like the buckle.

This year, D3′s teacher is having us decorate a turkey at home. Our turkey doesn’t want to be eaten for Thanksgiving, so we have to disguise him, so that he doesn’t get caught.

My name is Tom Turkey
And I’m afraid as I can be.
I’m wearing my disguise
So you won’t catch me.

Here is are a couple of links for a blank turkey for this project:

There are other super cute activities at that last link, as well.

Vote…

I was going to vote this morning before work, but the line was out of the door of my polling place and wrapped around into the parking lot. There is no way that I could have made it to work on time after standing in that line. It’s great that there is such a turn out for this election.

I’m not going to share who I voted for, but I did vote with two kids in tow! I went after school with D3 collecting all the I Voted stickers that he could and B trying to escape his stroller and getting stuck halfway out of the thing.

We might have caused a small scene, but I voted darn it! J

Our Three Words…

Our week in three words:

It’s been such a hectic week and weekend. I’m still trying to get caught up! It all started with the kids getting sick last Sunday. They had colds and just felt crummy.

They did a lot of resting and watching TV.

D3 still wanted to play his last soccer game on Monday and then Tuesday he had a little party with his teammates. He got a trophy and was so darn excited!

Thursday at school we had a Dress Up day and Fall Festival. The kids came in costume and we have pumpkin crafts, pumpkin bowling, harvest snack, a costume parade and a party. I was exhausted after work that day! The kids had a ball though.

During all of this week, Dan has been working non-stop on school work, as usual, and his huge packet of paperwork, essays, sermons, and Bible studies due at the end of the month. He has been so, so busy lately.

He came in Friday afternoon and we loaded up the car, picked D3 up from school and headed up to my parents’ lake place for Trick or Treating. We got up there to find out that they were trick or treating on Saturday and not Friday. D3 handled it so well. I thought he would have a complete meltdown, but he did not.

Soooo….. Saturday became our big day of Halloween festivities.

We yard saled (is that a word?), we ate lunch at Cracker Barrel,

And we decorated my parent’s golf cart for Halloween.

Have I mentioned how much B loves the golf cart? He is obsessed!! He constantly wants to go ‘bye-byes.’

They had Halloween games set up for the kids. D3 really enjoyed that.

D3 entered a costume contest and all of the boys in his age group won. Ha! I guess they didn’t want to choose. Then the kids finally got to go Trick-or-Treating. I don’t have the best pics, because my camera battery died (it’s becoming a theme). So, these pics are from Dan’s cell phone.

B was not interested in looking at the camera, so this is the best shot I have of him. He grew to love his little Yoda costume and left the thing on forever. He learned real quick-like how and when to say ‘Trick or Treat’ and ‘Thank You.’

The kids ended up with full buckets and had a great time. Later that night they had a hay ride through the woods, which was a lot of fun. D3 was not too thrilled with the folks running out of the woods trying to scare us. B could have cared less. He just laid back in my lap and enjoyed the ride.

Sunday we had church, lunch, grocery shopping and trying to get caught up!

Oh, and Dan saw me working on this post and said our words should have been Trick or Treat. Yea, that probably would have been cuter, but I’m so not going back and redoing this! J

Hope you all have a great week!
