Our Three Words…

My week in three words:

I started back to work this week. I teach four years old part-time at a wonderful Christian preschool. We went back this week, meeting and setting up our rooms. We had Open House on Thursday and I got to meet all the kids that will be in my class this year. The kids start coming on Monday- ready or not. I think I am ready, actually. I like the routine that school brings and I love being in the classroom. I didn’t take any pictures of my classroom, I’ll have to do that this coming up week!

I made several batches of play dough for the kids (the second picture is two big play dough balls J). I love the feel of homemade play dough and it seems to be a favorite of four year olds!

Traditional Play Dough

1 cup flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
¼ cup salt
1 cup warm water
1 teaspoon vegetable oil
food coloring

Put the dry ingredients in a pot. Mix the wet ingredients in a bowl and then stir into dry ingredients. Stir over a medium heat until smooth. Remove from pan and knead until blended smooth. Place in plastic bag or airtight container when cool.

I’m praying for a wonderful school year this year!

Thanks, Dan!

I have such a wonderful husband. Dan really spoiled me on my birthday this year. I got several nice presents, including this blog. {Granted I ruined the surprise by figuring it out several days early, but it was still an awesome birthday surprise} He surprised me by making me this website~ naming it and everything. I think he did a great job. Simply Cindy is a great name choice, because I tend to like things simple. I don’t always get simple with two little boys, but I sure like to try and simplify our lives!

Thanks so much Dan for being a great husband and father and for taking time out of your busy schedule to make something so thoughtful for me!! I love you!!

Yummy Cheese Sticks and Chocolate Milk…

D3 has been doing great with school. He loves his teacher and is making friends and bringing home all sorts of work. We went to Open House last night to see his room and all of the work he has done. His teacher is still hanging in there at 9 months pregnant. I’m sure he will have a sub soon. I managed to get a picture of him sitting at his desk.

Before school started D3 and I went to pick out his school stuff and he was so excited about his lunchbox. Bubblebee from the Transformers….

So, the first day I went to pick him up and he jumps in the car saying he had a great day and then asks what I packed him for lunch. I was puzzled, but told him what I had packed. When we got home, I got his lunchbox out of his backpack and it was untouched. I asked him why he didn’t eat lunch. He told me that he did, that he had a little thing pinned to him and he got to eat in the cafeteria! He had yummy cheese sticks and chocolate milk. So, the stinker decided he wanted cafeteria food and charged a lunch the first day! I informed him that school lunches weren’t free and I would have to pay for what he ate. He had no idea! I got the biggest kick out of that.

He is starting to understand the routine of school, but at first he was completely confused about it all.

My birthday date…

I had a wonderful birthday this weekend where I was spoiled by my husband and my in-laws. I got thoughtful gifts (this blog being one), wonderful meals, and a beautiful cake. Probably my favorite gift of all was the afternoon alone with my husband. We went to lunch, a movie, and shopping before we met Dan’s parents and the boys for dinner.

The few baby sitters that we do have here have not been able to babysit for months now, so it was so nice to have some adult time. But honestly, Dan & I are just terrible about getting babysitters to watch the kids. I don’t know what it is. The whole calling and scheduling and finding just the right person. The whole knowing what to pay and the expense of paying for a sitter and the dinner or movie or whatever it is your doing with your spouse. It brings about stress for me.

Recently a blog I like to read ~ Chatting with the Sky ~ did a great series of interviews with teenage babysitters. She asked all sorts of great questions and I found the answers really interesting. I think there are about 4 different blog posts devoted to the subject. Maybe I will find some inspiration and stop stressing so over a sitter. Because heaven knows, no matter how much you love your children, a momma needs a break…and a date every now and then.

Sunday Scripture

“…But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.”
~I Corinthians 12:24-26 (NIV)
